always enough water under the keel

"A BIG DREAM IN OUR POCKET AND OTHERWISE...

...no idea. We can only be glad that we got to know Jan Böhm as a consultant.

He examined the boat in detail and then gave us a recommendation.

At least as important was his view of us as future owners: are we and the boat a good match?

His advice was wonderfully personalised, we were able to ask every question and pick up lots of tips. He took enough time for all of this.

Jan Böhm gave us a lot of reassurance, thank you very much.

The right advice

"Buying your first boat is not only the fulfilment of a lifelong dream, but also a huge challenge. I realised this when I was about to buy a beautiful Elvström 32. Luckily, my mind switched on just in time and I asked Lodsman for an expert evaluation of the yacht.

Jan Böhm inspected the boat in detail and gave me excellent advice. I particularly remember the calm and matter-of-fact way in which Mr Böhm explained even the smallest details and answered my countless questions. I have rarely experienced experts who are so patient and emphatic with beginners!

I have Mr Böhm's excellent advice to thank for the fact that I didn't end up buying this boat. With his help, however, I was able to purchase a boat shortly afterwards that not only thrilled my heart, but also my mind. I am very grateful to Lodsmann for that!"

overhauld of a 38 ft. Motor yacht

We found the yacht in its berth after many years of neglect. It was covered in leaves which had found their ways into all the drains around the engine room cover and the fuel lines and filters. We couldn’t tell whether the engine would start up again nor if there was even any power supply from the batteries.

The state of the impeller, pumps, hoses, freshwater tanks, and sewage water tanks was all a big question mark; not to mention the flaking paint work of this once elegant boat.

On behalf of the owners, the big overhaul began at a reliable shipyard where we brought the boat to, personally supervising the works every step of the way. Once we’d finalised the administrating and bookkeeping, the yacht was dutifully handed over to the owners.

"...very pleasant consultation..."

"Jan Böhm really was a great help to us. From analysing the condition of a yacht, estimating the effort for acute and future work up to the assessment for a realistic market price.

Very pleasant consultation, very knowledgeable, everything in one hand. Thank you, Jan.

Best regards from Hamburg"

MAINTENANCE OF A 46 FT. MOTORYACHT

In Autumn 2021 the owner asked us to find a suitable winter storage for his yacht. He is a very busy man and does not have time to take care of such details.

We found a shipyard with a competent and reliable team. We sailed the motor yacht to the shipyard and checked the technical condition. We looked out for temperature, unusual vibrations, and the noise of the motor. During our routine check of the engine room, we noticed a leakage of gear oil.

Noticed in time, this is not a big deal, but a topic that we will spare the owner next season. The repair included small things, like a leakage, scrubbing of the fender against the yacht and many more.

We personally sailed the boat to the winter storage. The boat could have been transported on a truck as well but then we would have missed the leakage of the gear oil. We visited the shipyard 4 times to investigate the works.

We handed over the motor yacht to the shipyard with a list of 35 points. We separated what must be done and what can be done, to make sure to stay within the budget.

Afterwards we checked the works and the invoices and tested the boat thoroughly. In spring we brought the yacht to the owner’s summer berth.

"... good job, good sale..."

"I needed expertise for the sale of my yacht. I found Lodsman to be suitably responsive and knowledgeable, with years of experience "under their hull" for the job at hand.

I was more than happy to entrust Lodsman with this challenging brief. From initial inspection to the targeting of potential buyers through to sea trials with all contractual and legal paperwork covered, they were able to line up the right profile of buyer which led to a successful sale in a relatively short time span, at the right price.

Many thanks to the team, I would be happy to recommend them"

Yacht repair

We visited a badly damaged motor yacht. The yacht touched the harbour wall during a technical failure. Our job was to find a suitable yacht for the repair in cooperation with the insurance. The owner does not have time to deal with insurance matters, surveyors, shipyard, and other specialists to discuss the “damage-reducing treatment of the object”. He would like to hand this topic over to professionals and be informed about essential steps.

The yacht floated. There was no leakage. The machine ran. The foredeck was damaged, the body was severely damaged. We tugged the boat to a suitable crane as we were unsure if we can steer the yacht.

After a detailed investigation of the yacht there was more damage visible, such as a warped bulkhead wall in the foredeck.

Because it is a classic yacht it was not easy to find the right shipyard for its repair. Such an object needs special skills and attention. Such a classic wooden yacht needs to be kept wet during repairs in the summer. The hull must not dry out otherwise the planks can tear, and the yacht would be a total loss.

It is technically challenging to rebuild the elegant windows and the curved roof. The yacht must be restored as original as possible. Ideally, the yacht should look as good as possible.

Purchase Consultation

of a Sailing Yacht

A couple is looking for a touring yacht and found a Hallberg Rassy 43, from the well-known Swedish brand.

The plan is to sail the yacht in the Baltic Sea first to get to know it and later sail it in the Mediterranean Sea.

Together with the couple we visited a HR 43 Mk I year 2004.

The buyer wanted to clarify the following points: Does the model suit my plans? Does the offered yacht have hidden defects? Will he, the owner, face more costs?

The yacht is 18 years old. It is offered with its initial equipment. The inspection of the yacht showed that in addition to the purchase price an approximate five-digit amount may arise for the renewal of the following points:

-       Idle

-       Sail

-       Teak deck

-       Navigation electronics, such as log /

          lot, plotter, AIS and radar

The buyer gave it a second thought. The budget for this yacht with all its repairs he could purchase a younger model of the MK II.

Additionally, the couple did not like the two-piece armchairs on the starboard side of the salon nor did they like the upholstery.

The couple decided against this yacht. As soon as an interesting offer comes up again, we, Lodsman, will be happy to help again.
